Spread the
word and help keep your
school safe
from meningitis.
What You Can Do
You’re the only health-care professional that has daily contact with your students. So it’s important for you to raise awareness of meningococcal disease. Here are some ideas:
- Send an e-mail or educational materials to teachers and parents with a link to this Web site
- Send educational materials with report cards
- Host an in-school vaccination clinic
- Use office visits as an opportunity to warn students about the disease, its symptoms, and how it spreads
- Encourage annual physicals
- Monitor the news for outbreaks in your area
- Be on the lookout for symptoms when students come to your office
- Offer to speak about meningococcal meningitis at Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings
- Promote vaccination every chance you get
